Is SPED PTO’s next meeting on Tuesday, March 27th, 7:30-9 pm, at the BOE building, 525 Academy, Maplewood, on your calendar?  IT SHOULD BE!  The featured topic is:

  • SPECIAL EDUCATION: The Out of District Experience

The targeted audience is YOU!  Hear from SPED PTO executive board members and the SEPAC/SPED PTO out of district liaison about their personal parental experiences.  Share your own with others who can relate and have similar questions and concerns.

Transportation will be among the topics covered, with Paul Roth, SOMSD Business Administrator, addressing the subject.  Outstanding opportunity to network with local parents. (New people are showing up at every SPED PTO/SEPAC meeting!)

SEPAC Meeting: Behavioral Supports

Please join us for the next SEPAC meeting Wednesday February 1st, 7:30pm in the Black Box Theatre (basement level) @ CHS.  Our discussion will focus on Behavioral Supports with guest speaker Penny Petchers, SOMSD Behavior Management Consultant.

Additionally, we will introduce David Lieberman, Interim Director of Special Services.  Please see attached agenda for meeting details.

The SEPAC general meeting scheduled for Wednesday 11/16 has been cancelled. Instead, the SEPAC Executive Board will meet along with potential subcommittee members to plan programming for the 2016-17 school year. 

Please attend this meeting if you are a liaison or if interested in joining any of the following subcommittees:

Vocational-Tech/High School Transitions – chaired by Chris Shamberg 

State and Federal Special Education Policy – chaired by Mike Thompson

Membership – consisting of school liaisons and other interested SEPAC members – chair to be determined 

SOMSD Budget – chaired by Mike Donoghue 

Any member interested in joining a SEPAC subcommittee is welcome to attend this meeting. Other suggestions for subcommittees are welcome as well.

5-9-16 SEPAC Meeting 

Come and hear Dr. Ramos share his vision and goals for Special Education, and participate in a Q&A regarding special education policy in our district.

Note: this meeting will be held at the new Montrose Early Childhood Center at 356 Clark St., South Orange and a special tour will be offered at 7pm before the meeting starts.  See the agenda for details.

Also at the meeting, the Executive Board will be asking for a membership vote on by-law amendments that were introduced at the March 15, 2016 SEPAC meeting.  See the by-laws here, with the proposed amendments highlighted in yellow. A simple majority vote by members present at the meeting is required to approve the amendments”
